The Plan

The floor layout which I chose to refer to for this assignment is the Ginza Place, located in Ginza, Chuo, Tokyo. It is a mall mostly occupied by Sony along with several other F&B Stores.

The space in the mall is mostly used as a showcase room by Sony to display a wide range of electronics ranging from its cameras to their headphones.

The building is designed and built by Klein Dytham architecture and Taisei Design Planners Architects & Engineers with their client being Tsuzureya Co. Ltd.

The facade interprets and reflects the lineage of craft that is the mainstay of Ginza. The panel system acknowledges traditional Japanese forms but repurposes them to create a permeable skin that welcomes the community in and contributes to the social atmosphere of the neighborhood.

Wooden floorboards are are given to the base of the level as through researching the building further, wooden floor boards are used in the building.

Each room then have their own unique (often darker colored) tiling. This is because the level is based off a showroom and that each room have a small theme of their own.

The objective of this level design is for it to act as a tutorial level by having a basic and fairly linear level layout while still having all the various level elements such as enemies, pickups and locked areas to teach the players on the basic core mechanics of the game by slowly exposing the players to these various elements

While this level design was based off The Ginza Store, minor changes to the floor layout have been made to suit the purpose of the level while still maintaining most of the store layout.

The first element which the player will be exposed to will be the enemies in the level. This is done by leading the player around the corner through the use of corridors which leads to a small section of the level which has 2 enemies placed.

He will also have to make a few decisions along the way where the path splits into different ways. The level rewards the player whenever he explores the map by providing pickups that may help the player in his progression in the game. ( Some routes are also highlighted on the map as alternate routes which are lines in red)
